This Sunday, February 21st, the WWE will be hosting Fastlane, one of the newest and now most prominent stops on the road to Wrestlemania. WWE took a huge risk at Royal Rumble by having the WWE World Heavyweight Championship defended in the famous 30-man over the top battle royal, leaving us without a clear cut main event at Wrestlemania: Enter Fastlane. The annual pay-per-view show between Rumble and Mania was always a throwaway because the Wrestlemania main event was always already in place. But with the twist of a number one contender for WrestleMania being determined at Fastlane, this is now one of the most anticipated PPVs in recent WWE history.
Let’s take a look at the card for tonight’s show:

#1 Contendership to the WWE Championship
Roman Reigns vs Dean Ambrose vs Brock Lesnar

MY THOUGHTS: The fun thing about this match is the story they’re telling with Dean Ambrose. Whether or not we know who’s going to win and why, it’s the tease of the long awaited Dean Ambrose heel turn and his subsquent booking that’s most exciting. Dean, honestly, is being presented as the guy to beat. He’s determined, he’s focused and he’s crazy. He wants to take on all challengers at any cost because he needs to prove that he can be WWE World Heavyweight Champion. It’s the Dean Ambrose we wanted all along. (Winner: Roman Reigns via Shenanigans)

Intercontintal Championship
Kevin Owens (c) vs Dolph Ziggler

MY THOUGHTS: These guys…these guys. They’ve wrestled each other multiple times over the last few weeks and though it’s always fun, it’s becoming challenging to keep interest. But now, there is a new wrinkle in this story: the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Kevin Owens is the new champion following a fatal five way that included Stardust, Tyler Breeze, Dolph Ziggler and the former champion, Dean Ambrose. And while it’s great Owens is a two-time IC Champ, I can’t help but wonder what the future holds for him. Is Dolph going to snatch the championship so early to keep this feud on going? Or is Owens going to retain and work on that long standing IC championship reign we all know he deserves? (Winner: Kevin Owens retains.)

Divas Championship
Charlotte (C) w/Ric Flair vs Brie Bella

MY THOUGHTS: #ThankYouDanielBryan. #ThankYouBrieBella. Though my emotions are attached to this one, I’ll try to be unbiased: Brie hasn’t really done much with Nikki out on injury and even in Team Bella she was second place to her sister. It feels like this match was set up solely to deal with the emotional loss of Daniel Bryan. Despite that, I actually believe these ladies can put on a good show. But, Charlotte has really been doing great work with Ric at her side so I think this has been decided. Charlotte rolls on into Wrestlemania as Champ.
(Winner: Charlotte retains.)

AJ Styles vs Chris Jericho

MY THOUGHTS: AJ has been on fire since joining the WWE at the Royal Rumble and I’m so happy to see him here. This is where he belongs. Chris Jericho, though I feel his mic work hasn’t been up to par, has actually been putting on great matches with AJ. This rubber match between the two should be incredible and I expect they’ll put on a show. AJ’s taking this win though and he’s going to his first Wrestlemania with momentum.
(Winner: AJ Styles)

Sasha Banks & Becky Lynch vs Team BAD (Naomi/Tamina)

MY THOUGHTS: Sasha and Becky are on the road to Wrestlemania, baby. Can we just take a second to congratulate and appreciate how truly amazing the Four Horsewomen are? Sasha, Bayley, Becky and Charlotte are all stars and three of our four ladies are headed to Wrestlemania (at least I hope). I’m truly proud of these women. Now, as for this tag match, Sasha and Becky could use the momentum heading into Wrestlemania and unfornatutely right now, Naomi and Tamina are in the wrong place at the wrong time.
(Winners: Team BAE (Sasha and Becky) wins. Also, can they reunite, just for a little? Please? Thanks.)

The New Day on The Cutting Edge Peep Show

You have the hottest act in the business today and they’re doing a talking segment?! That’s…weird. My guess is this leads to the debut of an NXT team, and with Enzo, Cass and Carmella working WWE live events lately, I could see them coming out to verbally assault New Day and set up a tag feud heading into Wrestlemania.

The Wyatt Family vs Kane, Big Show and Ryback

I don’t understand this…the match doesn’t mean anything. What are we doing with the Wyatts? I…the Wyatts win… I guess Taker comes back or they attack Brock later, I don’t know what’s going on.
(Winner: The Wyatts via Wyatt like things)

United States Championship
Kalisto (c) vs Alberto Del Rio

Why is this match on the kickoff show? It is for the United States Championship, the same United States Championship that Cena spent MONTHS rebuilding and making credible. At one point last year this title was just as important as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and now it’s on the kickoff show?! I understand you want to draw people in but I don’t think this is the way to do it. The championship, Kalisto, and Del Rio deserve more. Ugh, anyway, with Kalisto’s tag team partner coming back from injury I could see him dropping the title to Del Rio but Kalisto has been good as champion and I want to see more from him. Lucha! Lucha!
(Winner: Kalisto retains)
